How to repay a Social Security overpayment
Pay.gov with your Remittance ID, your bank's bill pay, or a payment plan by phone: the ways to repay a Social Security overpayment.
Online
If your letter includes online payment instructions and a Remittance ID, you can pay at Pay.gov.
Through your bank
Use your bank's bill pay. Payee: Social Security Administration, PO Box 3430, Philadelphia, PA 19122-0340. Account number: your Remittance ID.
By phone or with a payment plan
Call 1-855-807-8807, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. local time. If you no longer receive benefits and cannot repay in full, ask for a payment plan or whether you can settle the overpayment.
