Form SSA-632: how to ask Social Security to waive an overpayment

The waiver request for a Social Security overpayment: who it is for, how to send Form SSA-632-BK, and why to send it within 30 days.

Who it is for

If you cannot afford to repay and you feel the overpayment was not your fault or is unfair, you can ask Social Security to waive it. If it agrees, you do not have to pay it back.

How to send it

Sign in to your my Social Security account and upload Form SSA-632-BK, or fax or mail it to your local Social Security office, or make an appointment. If you live outside the United States, contact a Federal Benefits Unit.

Why within 30 days

A waiver request sent within 30 days of the notice stops collection until Social Security decides.
